BACK FROM GREECE Some of the Peas have just come back from a trip to Greece.
We wanted to go to Samos, as we had never been there (though we had sponsored sporadically) to research which projects to help.
We visited different projects and places such as NGO Armonia, which feeds properly about 700 people a day and Glocal Root and their women only centre We are One.
We  also wanted to touch base in Lesbos, to visit our housing programme partners at Attika Human Support, it’s always good to meet face to face; and reassess the situation on the island.  It is much worse than last year.
Moria camp, built for a capacity of roughly 3000 people, ‘housed’ 10 000 a year ago.  There are now over 20 000 people ‘living’ in the camp and its surrounding.
Finally we visited Hiwa Project, the sport centre in Athens which is launching right now and which we are proud to sponsor. The manager there is Dana, a refugee from Kurdistan with an amazing energy. He encourages discipline, respect and focus through classes (kick-boxing, taekwondo etc) and clubs (football, running).HANDS ON

We also helped with packing nappies in bags for the Refugee 4 Refugees distribution in Samos, and helped them unload a two-container truck into their warehouse.  In Lesbos, we helped at the Moria women’s clothes distribution centre, organised by Attika and Team Humanity.  The mass distribution aimed for providing 5 items for 6000 women and children. 7 minutes to choose from piles 5 items for yourself and all your kids….

We are now in the process of discussing how and where to help more in depth.  We would very much like to support food distributions and doctor facilities, both on Samos and Lesbos.  We also are aware that NGOes on the ground need support with ‘non-glamourous’ expenses such as electricity bills and fuel for transport.
There is so much to be done. The situation is getting worse and will continue to do so for the foreseeable future. The relationship between natives and NGOes & refugees is turning sour. People are still arriving every day by boat on the Aegean islands.WE NEED YOUR HELP
